Welcome to the third number of the third volume of Computer Entertainer. We begin with some quite important news, so listen up. First and foremost, Atari has unveiled its next generation in its console line: Atari 7800 ProSystem, featuring ProLine joysticks, state-of-the-art graphics, a custom 4-kilobyte semiconductor chip, and direct compatibility with all Atari 2600 games and controllers. Notably, support for 5200 games is left out, but 5200 owners can play 7800 games with an adapter, though not with 7800 graphics or gameplay. Most of the cartridges planned for the new system are already available for 5200 anyway. The console is expected to hit stores in July with Pole Position II packaged initially as a cartridge before being stored onto the system's ROM chip. Atari has pledged to ship 12 titles for its new console coinciding with its release: Asteroids and Centipede; Lucasfilm Game's Ballblazer and Rescue on Fractalus!; Namco's Ms. Pac-Man, Xevious, Dig Dug, and Galaga; Vid Kidz' Robotron: 2084; Williams Electronics' Joust; and General Computer Corporation's original game Desert Falcon and its earlier Food Fight. It seems that Atari is headed for a strong rebound from its underwhelming latest console, and, to an extent, it is. Only, the console would be stuck in development until 1986.
